The first Citroën network had been meant to operate in the Paris area but there were delays because of objections about competition with the STCRP (the Paris transport authority). So it was that the first Citroën routes actually started a long way away from Paris in Lyon in June 1932 (nine lines, with the first to Bourg-en-Bresse). That very first route no longer appeared in the 1971 timetable however. The 1970s saw a litany of falling passenger numbers. In 1977 the Lyon network was sold to CFIT Compagnie Financière et Industrielle de Transports, associated with the Verney group.

Compared to the January map above, in just a few short months the routes have extended to reach Vichy, Clermont-Ferrand and Montbrison to the west; and Geneva to the east! The route to Clermont-Ferrand was to survive for sixty three years until 1996 and was to be the last route of Transports Citroën from Lyon.

Ligne 17 : Lyon - Boen - Thiers - Clermont Ferrand

The route from Lyon to Clermont-Ferrand was to survive for sixty three years from 1933 until 1996 and was to be the last route of Transports Citroën from Lyon. A route 180 kilometres long, in 1971 it ran twice a day in each direction.  From 1991 the route was oprated by Auvergne Autocars (a Verney subsidiary as Transports Citroën themselves were by then). The former  Citroën network of routes around Clermont Ferrand was sold to two other companies in 1996, Loisirs et Voyages of Ambert and Rougier Serres of Clermont Ferrand.  Both were subsidiaries of Maisonneuve.  The 17 from Clermont Ferrand to Lyon became route 27 of Rougier Serre, once a day, from Clermont in the morning, returning from Lyon in the afternoon.  Running across three departments it was known as the 27 in Puy-de-Dome, the 308 in Loire and the 111 in Rhone. The through route has not existed for some years now.
